Made By Britain launch Summer 2011 – Brighton, Hove, Sussex, UK
The Fashion Trust was formed to promote fashion emerging talent, design, manufacturing and encourage export from the South Coast region.
The Fashion Trust joined a team invited by the Government to showcase Britain’s design and manufacturing capabilities; it pitched itself aginst Great British icons as Fish Fingers, Stoves Agas, Sheffield steel surgical blades and Rolls Royce engines.
Vince Cable, The Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills and President of the Board of Trade, unveiled his ‘Made By Britain’ campaign, during the Summer of 2011, an initiative that he hoped to highlight not only design, but manufacturing excellence throughout the UK.
Stated Cable…
“With the Olympics bringing so much attention to Britain, this is a fantastic opportunity to show the rest of the world that we make world-beating products.”
“We are still the world’s seventh biggest manufacturer. Some of the world’s most skilled designers, engineers and fabricators hail from this fair isle.”
The manufacturing industry generates 12% of Britain’s GDP and the timing couldn’t be better for this ‘Made By Britain’ initiative for the British fashion economy.
